Trump Campaign Seeks Distance as Project 2025 Director Departs

The campaign’s senior advisors, Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, issued a sharp statement Tuesday warning groups against misrepresenting their influence with Donald Trump. They insisted the former president has no connection to the initiative, which critics describe as a roadmap for authoritarianism. This denial faces scrutiny, given that at least 140 former Trump administration officials, including six former Cabinet secretaries, have contributed to the project.

Heritage Foundation president Kevin Roberts characterized the leadership change as a long-planned transition, noting that the organization met its goal of drafting policy agendas before the major party conventions. However, Democrats are dismissing the maneuver as a political shell game. Julie Chávez Rodriguez, campaign manager for Vice President Kamala Harris, argued that the blueprint remains central to the Republican platform regardless of current efforts to obscure it. Representative Jared Huffman, who leads the Stop Project 2025 Task Force, echoed this sentiment, asserting that the public is increasingly aware of the project’s goals and will not be swayed by the campaign’s attempt to retreat from the association.
