Brian Eisenloeffel, Vice President of Operations, noted that the awards reflect the company's internal benchmarks, which often exceed baseline requirements. The facilities are among roughly 400 surface water plants nationwide participating in the voluntary initiative, which focuses on enhancing protection against microbial contamination through rigorous process optimization.

Beyond treatment performance, the company is actively addressing infrastructure age. Melissa Litteken, Principal Water Quality Program Manager, highlighted at the recent AWWA conference that Illinois American Water has replaced over 5,200 lead or qualifying galvanized steel service lines since 2020. This ongoing effort aims to align with evolving state and federal compliance landscapes while securing long-term service reliability for the 1.3 million people the utility serves across the state.
