Pylontech Targets Utility Market with 6.4MWh PyOcean Storage Platform

At Intersolar Europe in Munich, Pylontech unveiled PyOcean, a utility-scale energy storage platform featuring high-capacity 601Ah lithium iron phosphate cells. By moving into larger containerized solutions, the company aims to capitalize on the growing demand for renewable energy co-location and grid-side flexibility projects across global markets.

The PyOcean system arrives in two distinct configurations tailored for specific operational needs. The 6.4MWh model, utilizing 601Ah cells with an energy density of 426Wh/L, focuses on renewable energy shifting and capacity-value projects. A second, 6.26MWh version uses 588Ah cells designed for high-frequency cycling, such as peak-shaving and grid-side load balancing. Both systems house these components within standard 20-foot containers, a design choice intended to minimize land footprint and infrastructure costs.

Beyond hardware, the platform emphasizes deployment speed through factory pre-assembly and integrated safety protocols that monitor performance from the individual cell to the system level. These units are managed by a local energy management system designed to optimize asset performance over the project lifecycle.

This launch signals a strategic shift for the manufacturer, which built its reputation primarily in the residential sector. Recent deployments, including a 400MWh project in Ningxia and an 80MWh installation in Jiangsu, underscore the company's transition to large-scale infrastructure. Currently ranked as a Tier 1 Energy Storage Manufacturer by BloombergNEF, Pylontech is supporting this expansion by scaling its global infrastructure to nine overseas subsidiaries and 25 localized service centers.
