Petra Funds Group and MSCI Partner to Standardize Private Market ESG
Mid-market private equity managers often face ESG evaluations by investors using public market benchmarks they cannot access themselves. To bridge this information gap, Petra Funds Group is launching PeerView, a platform that integrates MSCI’s sustainability and climate datasets directly into private market reporting workflows.

The collaboration allows GPs to view their portfolios through the same lens as their limited partners. By leveraging MSCI’s climate benchmarks, emissions data, and controversy metrics, fund managers can now benchmark non-financial performance against bespoke peer groups. This shift moves private market reporting away from subjective narratives toward the data-backed, institutional-grade rigor that capital allocators demand.
Charlie Chipchase, Managing Director at Petra Funds Group, described the platform as an operating system that provides mid-market managers with visibility into how they are being measured. Rather than replacing existing disclosure frameworks, PeerView serves as an interpretive layer, helping firms translate complex sustainability data into actionable insights. Beth Byington, Head of Americas Sustainability and Climate at MSCI, noted that the partnership establishes a common language for both sides of the table, ensuring that private market managers are no longer navigating investor expectations in the dark.
