Apple Prepares Screen-Equipped Smart Hub for October Launch
A seven-inch square display running a specialized version of tvOS may arrive this October, marking Apple’s most aggressive move yet into the smart home market. The device, designed to serve as a central hub for security and communication, aims to compete directly with Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest series.
The interface relies on a grid of icons and widgets, blending design elements from iOS and WatchOS. At its core, the hub utilizes a revamped Siri AI capable of adjusting the display automatically to suit the specific user currently in front of the screen. Beyond basic controls, the hardware supports video conferencing and inter-device communication with existing Apple Home products.
Originally slated for a spring 2025 debut, the project was accelerated following adjustments to the company's AI roadmap. This launch aligns with the broader rollout of iOS 27 and enhanced Siri capabilities. Internal reports suggest this is the first of several hardware updates for the category, with a high-end security camera, a refreshed Apple TV, and an updated HomePod mini currently in development.
