ROHM Debuts Wide-SOA MOSFET for Automotive Safety Systems
Kyoto-based ROHM Co., Ltd. has unveiled the RS4P063BPHZG, a 100V MOSFET engineered to withstand the intense momentary power loads typical of automotive safety systems. By suppressing secondary breakdown, the device offers five times the Safe Operating Area tolerance of standard components currently used in airbag and seat belt pretensioner circuits.
The new hardware utilizes the industry-standard HPLF5060 package, allowing engineers to integrate the component into existing layouts without extensive redesigns. This compatibility reduces both development timelines and manufacturing overhead while meeting the growing demand for robust protection circuits in electrified vehicles.
ROHM leverages its established expertise in AI server and industrial power supply components to address the specific stresses of automotive environments. As vehicles increase in voltage and current requirements, the company plans to scale this Wide-SOA technology into larger HPLF8080 and TOLG package formats. The product is specifically intended for high-stakes applications like pyro-fuse drive circuits for battery disconnection and other emergency safety functions prone to short-duration electrical stress.
