PDS Health Delivers $22.8 Million in Dental Care During Serve Day
Nearly 6,000 patients across the United States received donated dental treatments this August during the 16th annual Smile Generation Serve Day. Organized by PDS Health, the initiative mobilized 14,000 staff members to provide over $22.8 million in services, targeting individuals who typically face significant barriers to essential oral healthcare.

The campaign highlights the systemic gap in American dentistry, where approximately 22 million adults rely on emergency rooms or international travel to address their dental needs. By coordinating with nonprofits such as the Dental Lifeline Network, Hire Heroes USA, and After Innocence, the organization connects veterans and underserved families with local practitioners. One such recipient, U.S. Army veteran Alan Fricks, received comprehensive treatment at Spring Valley Modern Dentistry in Las Vegas, an experience he described as life-changing.
Beyond individual treatments, the initiative emphasizes the Mouth-Body Connection—the clinical link between periodontal disease and broader health issues like diabetes, heart disease, and complications during pregnancy. Since the program’s inception in 2011, PDS Health has contributed more than $117 million in care. Stephen E. Thorne IV, CEO of PDS Health, noted that the annual effort is intended to foster a long-term commitment to community service among the organization’s 14,000 team members, who logged 83,549 volunteer hours during the month-long push.
