Vanguard Renewables Acquires Generate Upcycle to Lead RNG Market

The acquisition combines Vanguard Renewables’ integrated model with Generate Upcycle’s anaerobic digestion and depackaging facilities in New York and Ontario. Once finalized, the combined portfolio will encompass 19 facilities, enabling the company to process an additional 565,000 tons of food waste annually while increasing renewable natural gas production by 1.1 billion cubic feet. This move positions Vanguard to enter Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations market, addressing the rising demand for organic waste diversion as landfill capacity tightens.

Mike O’Laughlin, CEO of Vanguard Renewables, emphasized that scale is critical to unlocking the potential of the resource recovery market. The merger provides the operational reach and feedstock security necessary to meet corporate sustainability goals and support low-carbon energy infrastructure. Bill Caesar, President of Generate Upcycle, noted that the integration of their expertise with Vanguard’s existing network creates a robust foundation for long-term growth. The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions.
