Birdfy is bringing high-definition surveillance to the backyard with its new Feeder Metal 2, a device that ditches standard 1080p resolution for 4K streaming. Beyond the sharper optics, the system now leverages AI to curate personalized fact sheets on visitors, moving away from static database lookups.
The hardware retains the rugged, squirrel-proof metal construction of its predecessor while housing a 1.8-liter seed reservoir. To facilitate placement in larger yards, the company added an external antenna designed to maintain connectivity without extra signal boosters. Power is managed through an integrated solar cell, and the unit carries an IP66 rating to withstand direct exposure to the elements. While the resolution has jumped significantly, the device caps video output at 20fps to ensure stable streaming.
Available for $269.99, the feeder introduces the updated Birdfy OrniSense system, capable of identifying over 6,000 avian species. Users can opt for a $299.99 bundle that includes lifetime access to these AI-driven insights, bypassing the recurring monthly subscription model.
