Precision Diabetes and DirectSens Partner to Launch MetMark Test

Recent clinical data highlights alpha-hydroxybutyrate (AHB) as a potent early indicator of metabolic dysfunction. A 2026 prospective study tracking 1,349 individuals over a decade revealed that elevated AHB levels correlate with the eventual development of type 2 diabetes, even when standard clinical risk factors remain stable. Further research published in Diabetes Care confirms that the XpressGT assay can detect postprandial dysglycemia in patients who otherwise show normal fasting glucose and HbA1c results.

Historically, AHB analysis required complex mass spectrometry, which restricted its use to specialized research settings. The XpressGT technology bypasses this hurdle by enabling quantitative AHB measurement on standard high-throughput clinical chemistry analyzers. Under the new agreement, Precision Diabetes will manage the U.S. commercialization and distribution of the MetMark test, while DirectSens provides the underlying enzymatic assay platform. This integration marks a shift toward making metabolic profiling a standard component of routine laboratory workflows.
