Hansa Biopharma Taps Cradle AI to Accelerate Autoimmune Drug Discovery
Hansa Biopharma is integrating Cradle’s AI-driven protein engineering platform into its research pipeline to fast-track the development of novel immunomodulatory therapies. By deploying this end-to-end system, the Swedish biotech aims to shorten discovery timelines and improve the success probability of candidates targeting severe autoimmune conditions.

The collaboration marks a strategic shift for the Lund-based company as it seeks to scale its discovery efforts. Hansa will utilize Cradle’s platform—which combines candidate generation, multi-parameter optimization, and active learning from experimental data—to refine its "lab-in-the-loop" processes. According to Sofia Järnum, Hansa’s VP of Research and Early Development, the platform was chosen for its ability to provide continuous learning from internal data, a critical feature for predicting therapeutic outcomes.
For Cradle, the partnership underscores a growing industry trend toward unified AI workflows that consolidate molecular design and testing. The startup reports that its platform can reduce development cycles by up to 18 months, potentially yielding significant R&D savings for pharmaceutical partners. Hansa’s current portfolio is anchored by imlifidase, an IgG-cleaving enzyme marketed as Idefirix in Europe, which is currently under FDA review for highly sensitized kidney transplant patients. With this new integration, Hansa intends to leverage AI to broaden its pipeline beyond its existing transplant and gene therapy focus.
