Hoverfly Identifies Its Spectre Drone in Recent Army ISV-U Trials

The tethered unmanned aerial system featured in recent U.S. Army Maneuver Battle Lab trials at Fort Benning is the Hoverfly Spectre. While media coverage of the Infantry Squad Vehicle-Utility (ISV-U) testing highlighted the platform's role in extending communications and surveillance, the specific identity of the drone remained uncredited until now.

Hoverfly Technologies confirmed its participation in the August 2026 assessment at McKenna Field Landing Site, where the Spectre TeUAS was integrated onto moving tactical vehicles. The system demonstrated a dynamic follow-mode, maintaining altitudes up to 200 feet to provide mobile sensor coverage and radio relay while traversing off-road terrain. Unlike battery-powered alternatives, the Spectre uses a physical tether to provide continuous power and high-speed data, a design intended to bypass electronic warfare jamming and eliminate the need for flight-time recovery cycles.

This platform currently holds the distinction of being the only tethered UAS on the DCMA Blue UAS Cleared List and is verified secure via AUVSI Green UAS. With over 700 systems already delivered to U.S. and allied forces, the Spectre is designated as the VHA-Heavy for the PDM Nett Warrior FY25 program. During the two-week evaluation, operators noted the system's ease of use and its ability to influence maneuver unit situational awareness by providing a high-altitude vantage point in contested environments.
