Zydus and MSN Launch First U.S. Generic for Pulmonary Hypertension
Patients in the United States now have access to a lower-cost version of riociguat, as Zydus Lifesciences and MSN Laboratories announce the first generic alternative to Adempas. The treatment, approved by the USFDA across five dosage strengths, targets rare, progressive forms of pulmonary hypertension that previously lacked generic competition.

The launch marks a significant shift for individuals managing pulmonary arterial hypertension and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Developed and manufactured by MSN Laboratories, the generic equivalent mirrors the therapeutic profile of the branded product, which acts as a soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator to improve exercise capacity and delay clinical worsening. Bayer reported global sales of Adempas reaching approximately 850 million USD in 2025, underscoring the market demand for the drug.
Dr. Sharvil Patel, Managing Director of Zydus Lifesciences, noted that securing a day-one launch in a specialty category demonstrates the company's ability to navigate complex-generics pipelines. MSN Laboratories Founder Dr. MSN Reddy highlighted that the successful rollout reflects the technical precision required to manufacture the molecule. By leveraging Zydus's commercial platform, the partnership aims to stabilize supply chains for patients who require lifelong therapy for these life-threatening conditions.
