Lundbeck reports positive Phase Ib data for Parkinson's candidate

Lundbeck has unveiled promising early-stage results for Lu AF28996, an investigational oral prodrug designed to manage advanced Parkinson's disease. Presented at the 2026 International Congress of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders in Seoul, the data highlights improved motor control and reduced reliance on traditional levodopa therapy among study participants.

The open-label Phase Ib trial tracked 34 patients over 18 weeks, focusing on those experiencing motor fluctuations despite standard care. Participants receiving twice-daily doses showed a meaningful increase in "Good ON-time"—periods of symptom control without troublesome involuntary movements—alongside a significant reduction in "OFF-time" when symptoms return. By the end of the 18-week extension period, patients demonstrated a 14.5-point improvement on the Unified Dyskinesia Rating Scale and a nearly 30% reduction in their daily levodopa requirements.

Most reported side effects, including nausea and dizziness, were classified as mild, with no unexpected safety signals emerging during the study. While the trial was exploratory and lacked a placebo control, the results have paved the way for the DARE2 Phase II study. This larger, double-blind, randomized trial is already enrolling 150 patients across multiple countries to evaluate the drug's efficacy as a potential non-invasive alternative for advanced Parkinson's management.
