ISC2 Forms Academic Council to Bridge Cybersecurity Skills Gap
With 74.5% of industry leaders reporting that undergraduate curricula fail to meet modern professional demands, ISC2 has launched an Academic Advisory Council. This initiative unites educators and practitioners to align classroom training with the urgent, real-world requirements of a workforce increasingly defined by artificial intelligence and cloud security.

The council aims to address a widening disconnect between academic output and employer expectations. According to the latest ISC2 Cybersecurity Workforce Study, 41% of professionals identify AI proficiency as their most critical skill need, with cloud security following at 36%. By serving as a facilitator, ISC2 intends to integrate these research insights directly into educational frameworks, targeting areas like ransomware defense and AI-driven social engineering.
Casey Marks, Chief Operating Officer at ISC2, emphasized that the transition from student to professional requires more than traditional theory. The council focuses on establishing evidence-informed programs that prioritize operational excellence and workforce readiness. By fostering a structured dialogue between academia and industry, the organization hopes to create a more resilient pipeline of qualified talent capable of navigating evolving digital threats.
