Ampersand secures $15 million to bridge AI agents and legacy software

San Francisco-based startup Ampersand has raised $15 million in Series A funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners to solve a critical bottleneck in enterprise AI. The integration gap between modern AI agents and decades-old enterprise software has long hindered the industry. While companies are eager to deploy AI, they often hit a wall with highly customized CRMs and ERPs that require deep, time-consuming domain expertise to navigate. Ampersand’s platform creates a bridge between these two generations, allowing developers to deploy custom data models that handle unique permissions, workflows, and objects automatically.

John Pena, CTO at Hatch, noted that the platform allows companies to reach customers previously inaccessible due to integration complexity without the burden of long-term maintenance. Beyond the core infrastructure, the startup recently unveiled Andi, an AI integration agent designed to assist developers in managing environment-specific implementations. The leadership team, comprised of former G2 executive Ayan Barua and Google Firebase veteran Lauren Long, spent months researching integration pain points across 100 companies before developing the technology.

Lauri Moore, a partner at Bessemer, emphasized that while many companies can build a basic connection to a system of record, maintaining that link across hundreds of customers with varying schemas and expiring tokens is a significant hurdle. Ampersand focuses on that operational stability, ensuring that agents can perform reliable, bi-directional actions. The funding round also included backing from Matrix, Flex Capital, Yelp, and several prominent angel investors.
