Huayou Recycling Targets European Battery Loop with Dual-Chemistry Tech
Faced with strict EU Battery Regulation mandates, Huayou Recycling has unveiled a dual-process matrix in Frankfurt designed to handle both LFP and NCM battery chemistries at industrial scale. The solution seeks to resolve the profitability gap currently hindering the recycling of lithium iron phosphate cells across the European market.

The new matrix integrates direct recycling with hydrometallurgical processing, allowing facilities to adjust methods based on specific cell degradation levels. This flexibility aims to lower carbon footprints and improve cost efficiency for local manufacturers struggling to manage the increasingly diverse chemistry landscape of end-of-life batteries. By scaling these capabilities, the company intends to provide a resilient framework for the regional supply chain.
Executive Vice President Wei Bao stressed that the firm’s strategy relies on deep integration with the European industrial fabric rather than independent operations. The company is currently soliciting collaborative structures—including joint technology development and resource sharing—with automakers and cell producers. This approach aims to transform regulatory compliance into a competitive advantage for regional electric vehicle production, effectively turning potential bottlenecks into a functional closed-loop ecosystem.
