Piramal Pharma Upgrades Turbhe Facility With Band 5 Spray Drying
Piramal Pharma Solutions has commissioned a high-containment spray drying suite at its peptide-focused site in Turbhe, India. The expansion introduces Band 5 containment capabilities designed specifically to stabilize sensitive biomolecules and complex peptides during the transition from liquid formulations to dry, high-potency powder batches.
The new suite operates as a closed-loop system, integrating dedicated air handling units, nitrogen supply, and rigorous safety controls. By maintaining ISO Class 8 cleanliness standards, the facility ensures the integrity of potent compounds and organic solvents that require strict environmental oversight. This infrastructure allows for the processing of concentrated solutions with up to 30% water content at a feed rate of 1 liter per hour.
Dr. Jordi Bacardit, Global Technical Lead on Peptides, noted that the technology provides the precise control over temperature and solvent environments necessary to overcome the inherent instability of peptide-based drugs. Beyond technical precision, the suite incorporates airlocked entries, operator isolation zones, and specialized cleaning areas to mitigate risks associated with handling highly potent active pharmaceutical ingredients. This investment strengthens the CDMO’s ability to manage small-volume, high-value production cycles for global partners.
