Broken Yolk Café Plans Coastal Expansion in San Clemente
Less than a mile from the San Clemente pier, a historic breakfast brand is staking its claim on the city’s dining scene. Franchise operator Nick Harris confirmed plans to convert the storefront at 201 Avenida Del Mar into the latest Broken Yolk Café, targeting a grand opening in late 2026.

The project marks the 30th Southern California location for the San Diego-based chain, which has operated since 1979. Harris, a seasoned multi-unit partner who recently launched a site in Lake Havasu City, selected the downtown venue for its high-traffic proximity to local shops and tourist attractions. The expansion aligns with a broader growth strategy for the franchise, which currently counts 42 restaurants across the United States, including new footprints in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, and Texas.
John Gelastopoulos, president of Broken Yolk Café, emphasized that the brand’s longevity relies on adapting to local markets while maintaining a people-first service model. By securing a space in the heart of San Clemente’s retail district, the company aims to capture both the local morning crowd and seasonal visitors. The move signals a continued commitment to the Southern California market, where the brand first established its reputation for scratch-made brunch offerings.
